Turkey Hunting Illinois Thunder! #turkeyhunting
Переглядів 391Місяць тому
Season 3 of the Illinois Spring Turkey season was a success for me in the blind. A 2 day sit on some beautiful private property of a friend of mine resulted in a solid bird. I'm certainly not an experienced turkey hunter, or a turkey caller (you'll hear that in the video, haha), but I was good enough on this morning to call down a Tom and put him down. This was my first solo turkey and felt goo...

What side by side you using and how you like it? I've used semi autos my whole life but would really like to try one. Love the content and season can't get here fast enough!

Buddy n me use to hunt grouse about every weekend here in Ohio years ago. Hardly see any grouse now adays. Thanks for reminding me how much fun it was.
Hey glad it brought back some memories. Thanks for watching!
You motivate me. love your vids
Thank you!
We should thank this guy for the constant feed and quality of videos posted. Especially those people like me who find it tiring to take a smartphone out of your pocket to take a often horrible photo 😅. We should do it seriously. Thanks friend!
Thank you again Stefano! It is I that should thank all of you for watching all these years!
Great video as usual
Thanks Mike!
Muster every fiber, mobilize, stay alive! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Yeah man! Doing the same every chance I get.
Just told my buddy that t have a certain Black Sabbath song I’m going to play just before I arrive at my spots for birds this season. Not long now..
rock on man!
Thanks for showing us the snow. It was 102 here in the desert today.
We needed it, we had mid 90s in the Midwest today!
What chokes are you running in that gun
Awesome video. What kind of gloves are you using?
Thanks! Gloves are Plainsman Cabretta
What SxS is that? Looks good
Tristar Bristol, it's not bad and it's affordable. I've had a few problems with it but overall I like it.
@@UnderFortyYards Nice. What kind of problems do you usually run into? I was looking at the Orion SxS and the CZ SharpTail. Still deciding.
@@kyoutdoors131 I've had some failure to fire. Light striker hits. Some was due to factory oil and after removing stock and cleaning action it was better. The CZ is nice but quite a bit heavier. This is a legit 6.7 lbs on the 12 GA. Orion is also heavy. 20 GA version of this is 6.4lbs.
@@UnderFortyYards Oh ok. Yeah I'm looking to get a 20GA. I have a Beretta SPIII, but I didn't want to beat it in the woods. I might get a Tristar Bistrol in English stock. I really want to handle each gun before I make a decision. Does the light striking happen often? Or is it once in a blue moon?
@@kyoutdoors131 it happened quite a bit out of the box until I cleaned it out. Then ran good for the most part. I did have trouble after though. On a SxS the strikers have to hit the primer at an angle by design. A 12 will be more of an angle than 20 would be, so in theory more reliable on 20 (barrel centerline are closer) . I didn't make a determination if the ammo used made a difference. Some primer steel is harder than others. I shot mostly Winchester and I'll be switching to Federal this season. I wanted it in 20 but this came up on gunbroker auction for an insane price brand new so I took it in 12.
hello what cartridges do you use and which chokes??
what cartridges is choke you use please can you tell me.. Thank you
12 GA #5 2 3/4" 1.25oz, Choke is Mod.
Idaho has planted pheasant areas as well, what does that tell ya'?! Anyway, good for training dogs that know no difference. No shame!
Yep, 100% correct. I try to wait until late season, past the release dates and get a more "wild(ish)" hunt. The bird quality is good, strong flyers unlike many preserves I've been to where 1/2 the birds can't fly. You'll have to put in some miles to get a limit in late season. Hell, even SD buys pen raised birds to supplement the wild birds. A large game farm near me (largest in the country) supplies the state of SD with supplement birds on trucks in the middle of the night during years with down numbers. Kind of like fishing stocked trout right!? haha For wild birds and my money, we head north and chase ruffies and sharptail as much as possible, but these phez fill a nice spot in the season in my area.
Training hunting dogs at Hutson Heritage in Idaho and living vicariously off wonderful videos like these just barely gets me through the summer to hunting season(s)! I've been hunting for fifty years and am sorry that I didn't come up with the garden sprayer idea! Brilliant!
Thanks, I appreciate that! We can't take credit for the garden sprayer idea, although it's a great one, that tip goes to Robert Poor @borderland_upland I do recommend one with a wand to get under the dog, works really well. The season will be here before we know it.
You’re language is as bad as you’re shooting I won’t be watching any more
Sunk ends the fun for everyone.
How does the Dogtra Pathfinder 2 compare to the SpotOn?
Using USA made shotguns; who are you and what did you do with the other guys? Just messing.
Haha, the classics will never be outdone!
My dad loves this song, good work
Do you shoot with your hand wrapped around the barrels?
I don't mean to, but it was a problem this season in the grouse woods definitely affected my shooting poorly.
@@UnderFortyYards I was just curious, I just bought my first SxS and the fore stock is really narrow, holding it is a little odd to me being used to OU's, shooting just a round of trap had my hands awfully hot as it was, I definitely wouldn't want to wrap my hands around them anymore than I have to.
@@mathewpankratz5767 they are different and take getting used to. I've also had it trap shooting and it's definitely gets hot. Not ideal for that. I find myself wearing gloves more with a SxS just because your hand is on steel a lot. I do enjoy it though, a little more fun I think. But I'm definitely not as accurate with it yet.
Thanks Dave for this hunting action. Personally, seeing that beast arrive would have made my pulse rise a lot! Congrats, my friend!
Thanks Stefano! They get your heart pumping for sure!
great dog, great team, thanks for the video
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Thank you.
What watch do you use that accepts the Dogtra info?
I'm on Android so Galaxy Watch4 or higher. Apple watch if your on iOS. I run galaxy watch 5 pro.
What kennel did you get your dog from? How old is he?😊
Shining Star GSP in Wisconsin. He's 5 now.
Great review! Honest feedback that doesn’t feel like an infomercial. I use a Dogtra T&B and OnX for my tracking/scouting/waypoints. Wanting a gps on dog to get point signals and dog data to nerd out post hunt. A big draw to Dogtra system is fact I could keep my Apple Watch and not have to buy a new watch just for hunting. I heard you mention you used OnX as well. Questions: Can the Pathfinder 2 and OnX apps be running at the same time, or does one cancel other out? If you have experience running both at same time, does it drain battery significantly faster on longer hunts? Does Pathfinder app have satellite map views of actual terrain even in places with no cell service (like OnX)?
Thanks the feedback! The answer to your questions is yes to all. I almost always run PF2 and OnX at the same time. It's possible to download offline maps with PF2 ahead of time similar to OnX. To be honest I don't do this and when out of cell range it doesn't really matter to me. GPS position and generic map is just fine. Can't say I've ever wished I downloadedwd them. However I do download OnX maps almost always. I run Android and Samsung Watch 5 pro which works really nice. On iOS the caveat is you can't turn off the screen otherwise you might loose Bluetooth connection, the work around that some people do is run screen brightness very low to leave on all the time. Androidd allows apps to run in the background when screen off. It's trickier with Apple but works. It might even be worth getting a cheap Android phone just for controller. I don't notice battery life suffering running PF2 and OnX at all. I always record track with OnX and PF2 at the same time, no troubles. It's really a nice system and price point. Hope this helps ans thanks for watching!
Thanks for taking time to give detailed response! Appreciate knowing of screen on all time and tip of screen brightness to save battery. I’d think one would be able to click a setting or something for background refresh, but I’ll play around with it when I get one. Or just buy a super light USB battery to keep in vest. Maybe simplest solution is best. lol Will use your code when purchasing and subscribed to channel.
@@jmgeist Thanks man, I appreciate the code usage! It helps out the channel.
I have a setter who usually works 50-150 yards out and whenever she gets on point out at those ranges I’m always booking it to get there, she’ll relocate as needed, but it’s taken her some time to figure out how much she can pressure the bird without it flying off. This last fall was her third season, she just turned three about a month ago, and the progression is amazing. I managed three weeks off in October for bird hunting which really let her put some polish on her skills.
That's a great range for a grouse dog. Sounds like you've got one hell of a hunting partner! Setters are beautiful bird dogs.
What part of Montana were you hunting in? Lots of public land access it seems?
Eastern, Montana has great access.
Very helpful video. Thanks 👍
Love your videos! What side by side are you using?
No need to answer I searched the messages and got it.
Thanks, much appreciated! It's a Tristar Bristol color case. Decent SxS
Great video really enjoyed it.
thank you Gary!

Love your intro as usual. Great job.
Thanks those are fun to make!
The one you killed at 12:57 you could see it move slightly before you went to look for it
I didn't catch that. Cool
Get em, Sawyer!
🤘
Nice video, thanks for sharing, man!
Stefano, thank you! Enjoy that puppy Aaron!
With shots like that first one you’re going to need a logging permit. 😊 Thanks for the video, great job.
Haha that is for sure. We cut some lumber this season!
And the shot on the bird? UA-cam compliant?
We connected on that one but it was a little violent for this short, haha.
Great video again besr grouse and woodcock videos on here
Thanks man for the continued support!
Absolutely some of the greatest moments ever!
